Shape-Shifting Origami Creations By This Origami Artist Is Making Waves On The Internet

Origami, the traditional Japanese art of paper folding, has come a long way and has evolved. And one of those leading this change is origami artist, Jo Nakashima, who has gained popularity for his shape-shifting origami sculptures.

Of Japanese descent, Nakashima is a Brazilian, who not only makes incredible origami sculptures but also shares his tricks and trades on YouTube with other origami enthusiasts. Jo Nakashima’s easy origami is not easy at all. In fact, his shape-shifting kinetic origami is seemingly impossible and is quite a rage on the internet.

It all began when Nakashima uploaded his first videos of his origami creations on YouTube in 2007. Such was their popularity that he constructed his own website in 2009. He states, “Since then, I’ve improved my channel and my origami skills a lot, and started creating my own models in 2010.”

What makes Jo Nakashima origami stand out from the rest is his shape-shifting structures. His kinetic origami involves modular cubes that he individually connects with each other. Once these cubes get connected, they together form a movable structure that allows change of shape whenever desired.

Unlike traditional origami that mostly uses white paper, Nakashima uses colored paper to make his creations more vibrant and attractive. Besides his shape-shifting sculptures, he also makes traditional origami sculptures, such as birds, animals, and figures of varying sizes. Origami Jo Nakashima animals and others are quite colorful and so is Jo Nakashima dragon.

Little wonder Jo Nakashima best origami is growing in popularity on the internet.
