This Amazing Sculptor Shot To International Fame Through His Incredible Scrap Metal Sculpting

The old rusted iron and other scrap metal pieces are usually thrown away and recycled, but here is a sculptor who seeks such scrapand transforms it into amazing animal forms that are so realistic as to become collectors’ items.

The name of this renowned sculptor is JK Brown, who is currently based in West Wales that, according to him, is full of native wildlife. The wild animals remain a constant source of inspiration for him. Says he, “For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved to watch animal, especially in the wild. And for as long as I can remember I’ve been drawing, making and creating as a way of celebrating the beauty of nature.”

So, how does Brown source his raw material. He explains, “Often when I’m out walking I pick up fragments of metal that have been thrown away…or washed up on beaches.”

After getting hold of such scrap, Brown says, “I patiently reassemble these pieces into monuments to the natural world around me; a habitat that is becoming increasingly fragmented. I find that my own process of reversing this fragmentation is, for me, a calming antidote to the madness of endless consumption.”

Although naturally gifted, Brown also studied Fine Art Painting from Cheltenham Art College under Prof. Anita Taylor and Metal Casting and Welding at West Wales School of the Arts, under the tutelage of the sculptor, Andy Griffiths. Little wonder his work displays an infusion that is rarely seen in metal art.
