This Amazing Artist Becomes A Social Media Sensation For His ‘Double-Faced’ Photo Serial

This conceptual artist, painter and photographer emulates Picasso and how! Whereas Picasso, one of the most important modern artists of the 20th century, displayed double-faced characters in his paintings, Sebastian Bieniek does this in his photographs.

Immensely interested in art, Bieniek enrolled himself at the HbK Braunschweig, Germany and studied art under Swiss conceptual artist John Armleder and Serbian performance artist, Marina Abramović. He also studied art under the German photographer Katharina Sieverding in Universität der Künste Berlin, Berlin, Germany.

Among his works, his photo-serial ‘Double-faced’ was a hit and became one of the most popular internet memes. In no time, it became a social media sensation with Instagram recording over 43,000 followers. This popularity egged Bieniek to explore the niche of ‘Painted-faces’ by blending different media.

It is not only the internet that has helped Bieniek in popularizing his art, but exhibitions too. His first solo exhibition was held in Berlin in 1999. The very next year he participated in the ‘Festival of Vision’ exhibition in Hong Kong. Till date he has participated in a number of exhibitions in many countries, including Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Bahrain and many more.

It is no wonder that this 47-year-old German is among the ‘Top Five Influential Contemporary Berlin-based Artists’, according to theculturetrip.com.
