Remember the childhood game where you had to draw a figure without lifting your pen or pencil? Well, the works created by Differantly, also known as DFT, are no different! Differantly is the name adopted by a French creative duo, who share time for their work between Paris and Berlin.
Renowned for their one-line illustrations, this duo creates a variety of artworks, such as product designs, wall art, and installations. Their single line drawing is what sets them apart from other artists. Such is their expertise in this form of art that they’re able to deconstruct complex imagery into 2D minimalist art.
If you’re wondering about the process that they adopt for line art, they explain it on their website, thus, “During our process, we go through phases that are visually rich and complex before removing what’s not substantive. It’s a maturation process that can be painful as it consists of letting go, giving up. But it’s also very demanding as minimalism requests a certain level of perfection. Every element must’ve its sense, its utility, its intrinsic beauty.”
Their unique and beautiful line drawing has prompted many brands to collaborate with them. For Adidas, they customized the façade of their headquarters building by creating gigantic artworks of the brand’s most celebrated models. They also collaborated with Nike and designed special edition jerseys for Lebron James World Tour 2018.
Besides these two famous international brands, the duo has also collaborated with Adobe, Hermés, Jaguar, Nissan, Samsung and many others. Such is the popularity of their drawing style that they have a following of over 272,000 fans on their Instagram page alone.
The duo lives with the dictum ‘Living in a parallel dimension where all matter has gathered into one line’. And they certainly prove it to be so true.
