Danny Hawk is one gifted person who doesn’t need a camera to capture a scenic spot. This is because this artist is a master at capturing not only the architecture, rural landscapes, street, and other structures but their essence too. Little wonder the popularity of his watercolor paintings is growing on the internet. On his Instagram page alone, he enjoys a following of over 43,000 fans and counting.
Although Hawk was always interested in drawing from his childhood days, he just didn’t get the time to pursue it. He was especially interested in sketching buildings and places. However, his passion remained on the backburner for 10 long years, as he studied to be a double major in International Relations and German.
The turning point in his life came when he decided to move from Ohio, US to Germany just to realize his dream of living abroad. It was here that his passion for art got rekindled. Says he, “In 2017, something magical happened. Creative people started to come into my life, I began following artists online and I joined my local Urban Sketchers chapter here in Frankfurt…and bam! I was hooked.”
Hawk loves to explore new places, especially those of historical significance, and capture it in his sketchbook in ink and watercolors. It’s not surprising to find him at such places, hunched over his sketchbook with a palette in one hand and a fountain pen in the other.
Hawk recounts his visit to Dresden, Germany, where he was totally captivated by ‘The Zwinger’, an ornate palace built in Baroque style that used to serve as the festival arena of the Dresden Court, exhibition gallery and orangery. According to him, “…it’s practically begging to be sketched.”
Hawk’s watercolor paintings continue to delight his viewers and his latest works can be seen on his blogs.
