Ever seen farmlands from an airplane or aerial shots of the same? If you’ve, you’ll straight away make out what the embroidered art of Victoria Rose Richards is all about.
This 21-year-old embroidery artist displays a variety of colorful aerial landscapes through embroidery stitches on cloth framed in a hoop. The range she depicts is simply delightful and includes aerial views of earth and other sceneries, especially sunrise and sunset.
Richards, who is based in rural Plymouth, England, gets her inspiration from nature that surrounds her. Crop-laden fields, countryside roads, dense foliage, river streams, distant mountains, etc. all become her subjects of embroidery. Such is her color and stitching sense that she reproduces the exact landscape in her incredible embroidery. The long, straight stitches of colorful threads depict the fields and French knots, the trees and the foliage.
What’s surprising is Richards is not trained in embroidery but is self-taught. A biology graduate, she was drawn to this art not only because she was passionate about it, but because she wanted to overcome the low patches that she suffered due to boredom. How she got started on embroidery, she explains to awesomebyte.com via email, “I didn’t have a good enough pastime to while away the hours, I wasn’t using to study. I decided to give embroidery a go and never looked back.”
Richards continues to hone her embroidery skills and her thread paintings are being appreciated by all. On Instagram, she enjoys a fan following of over 67,000 fans.
