This Fruit And Vegetable Carver Takes This Art To A Whole New Level

You must have seen salads bars decorated with animal figures made out of vegetables. These creations certainly give them a wow factor. But, here is a sculptor who has taken this art to a whole new level.

This incredible artist is Valeriano Fatica, whose claim to fame is his amazing carvings of, not only fruits and vegetables but unconventional materials too. Each piece has to be seen to be believed.

This 27-year-old Italian artist, currently based in Molise, Italy, is great at carving fruit and vegetable sculptures, but he’s also completely at ease carving cheese, and even rocks and clay.

Although most artists and sculptors learn their trade putting in hours of hard work over the years, Fatica had them in his genes, since he comes for an artistic family; his wife is a photographer and translator, his father, a painter and sculptor and his sister, a pianist.

It comes as no surprise that Fatica opened his eyes looking at his father’s creations. He instantly got attracted to art and soon began drawing as a child. After he got enrolled into Art High School, he realized his passion for sculptures. He got an opportunity to hone this artistic gift by sculpting watermelons for buffets in his family-run restaurant, La Roccia.

However, from the very beginning, comics inspired him and continue to do so till date. His collection of over 2,000 pieces of comic book art bears testimony to his love for comics. In fact, he actually wanted to be was the mangaka, the creator of manga, a Japanese style of comics.

Not becoming one, let him focus on carving sculptors out of fruits, vegetables and others. However, you can find the influence of manga in some of his sculptures like the bust of Frieza, a character from the manga Dragon Ball, made out of the potato.
