Meet Astrid, An Illustrator Who Loves Architecture and Lays Her Works Around The World

The world is full of beautiful architecture. It’s no surprise that some of the most popular Instagram accounts are devoted to photos of architectural beauty. One such account is Urban Anna, a self-taught illustrator from the Netherlands who draws colorful and whimsical facades

Urban Anna is the portfolio of Astrid, a young and creative artist who loves the world’s architecture. Growing up in the Netherlands, Astrid was surrounded by historical buildings and modern structures. This has influenced her work tremendously. Her sketches are mostly influenced by European architecture, but also include influences from other parts of the world.

Urban Anna Is An Atlas Of Beautiful Buildings

These chaotic, urban cities with their swarms of diverse characters can be both a joy and a nightmare to live in. Amid the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it’s easy to forget that the city you inhabit is teeming with colorful and unique buildings, shops, and cafes. That is unless you turn to Urban Anna, whose work is dedicated to celebrating the beauty of the world’s architecture. In her drawings, she captures the vibrant building facades that we pass every single day, but disregard as just another building. Singling out these designs and giving them center stage is something that brings about a smile. And maybe gives us reason to look forward to seeing a building’s expected facade someday.

I think there’s something for everyone in Urban Anna’s work. There’s a surprising amount of detail, and the art itself is so colorful and full of life—even I find myself inspired to start drawing again after looking (and looking and looking) at her work. And if you’re not an artist yourself, she has plenty of inspiration for you too. She shares her sketches and doodles as well as tips on how she came up with these ideas, so there’s a lot to take in if you’re willing to spend some time in her gallery.
