Banksy, as you may recall, is an anonymous UK-based street artist, who has been enthralling the public with his art since the 1990s. His humorous and thought-provoking street art, seditious epigrams, and dark satire is what makes him unique. Such is the popularity of his trademark art that has an Instagram following of over 6.6 million fans.
The good news is you can now buy his art from his online art shop, ‘Gross Domestic Product’ or GDP. He opened this homewares store on October 1, 2019, as promised to his fans and admirers who wanted him to display and sell his creations on a single platform.
However, if you want to buy his works from GDP, you’re required to answer a question to become eligible. The question is, “Why does art matter?”. This helps Banksy to select a buyer in the event of demand outstripping supply. So, if you are interested in owning a piece of Banksy’s art, make your answers as witty and informative as possible to get picked up.
The variety on offer on GDP is a testimony to Banksy’s fertile imagination and creativity. His works range from a static-filled HD TV, rat race clock, a police helmet covered with tiny mirrors and much else. Each of his works is a commentary on social issues, such as the refugee crisis, police atrocities, plastic pollution and all. All available pieces on the website appear to have been signed by the artist.
It may surprise you to know that Banksy is not only an artist but a film director too. His documentary film, ‘Exit Through the Gift Shop’ made a debut at the Sundance Film Festival in 2010, where it was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary. He was also conferred ‘Person of the Year’ award at the 2014 Webby Awards.
