This Amazing English Artist Creates Incredible Creatures From Hubcaps

If you are thinking of discarding your car’s deformed and worn out hubcaps, don’t throw them away, instead present them to Ptolemy, a British sculptor, who is a whiz at creating works of art from recycled materials.

Ptolemy, born and brought up in England, received a degree in art and design from Bradford and Illkley Community College. Despite this degree, he worked in various jobs, as diverse as theater set design and construction, stage design and construction, and many more, but he did not give up his artistic agenda.

Ptolemy focused on recycled materials to give shape to his creations in the form of sculptures. His recycled material included hubcaps, wheel trims, scrap metal, shopping trolleys and the like. And his expertise lay in reshaping them into a variety of human, bird and animal sculptors.

Ptolemy’s claim to fame are his hubcap creatures, made out of hubcaps found lying on the roadside. For him the marks and scratches on these lost hubcaps add to the texture to the creatures he creates!

Such is his creative genius that he not only figures prominently on the social media, such as Facebook where he has upwards of 45,000 followers, but also in the leading dailies, such as The Times, The Daily Mail, The Observer, The Telegraph and many other newspapers and international magazines.

Ptolemy boasts of a long list of clients, such as Kenwood, WWF, Essex County Council, Brighton County Council, East Coast Trains, The Environment Agency, The Eden Project and many more. He has also appeared in several television shows that include Richard and Judy, Blue Peter, SMart, Art Attack and Collectors Lot.

Ptolemy works have been displayed in numerous exhibitions in England, such as London, Haslemere, Rutland and Salisbury. His works were also showcased in Scotland, Barcelona, Spain and Athens, Greece. He currently resides in Brighton, where he has his workshop.
