Ever met a man who’s in love with metal? Well, one such person is Vasily Sasimovich, who despite his full-time job, finds time to make sculptures from scrap metal in his free time. And he’s been doing this for the past six years.
To feed his passion for metal sculptures, this 38-year-old from Minsk, Belarus, has been doing the rounds of car service stations and metal scrap yards in search of metal trash. Having no formal training in metal sculpting, this sculptor is entirely self-taught. From his very childhood, he loved to build things and realized very early in his life his uncanny gift of metal sculpting.
It may surprise you to know that, unlike other metal sculptors, Sasimovich doesn’t make any preliminary sketches of the sculpture he’s about to undertake. Working with metal parts, he somehow knows what part will go where in the sculpture and what can be made from a specific metal part. The surprising part is his sculptures are totally spontaneous and it’s this spontaneity that provides an added charm to his creations.
Such is Sasimovich’s love for the metal that he refuses to paint it. Instead, he loves to highlight the beauty of old iron and takes pride in showcasing the myriad brown hues of rust on dark metal. His inspiration is to put scrap metal to gainful use by creating sculptures. His metal sculptures range from animals and insects to trees and objects.
What Sasimovich does is not easy. This is because the shape of his sculptures is entirely dependent upon the kind of metal parts available. Despite this, he has an incredible collection of over 100 metal sculptures. He aims to show what all one can create out of garbage.
You can see his creations on his Instagram page, where he enjoys a sizeable fan following.
