It was the playful and observant nature of Seiko Tanaka that first introduced her to the fascinating world of art. As a child, she used to observe the passing seasons and their own distinct colors with which they painted Mother Nature.
In spring, this amazing Japanese artist used to draw pictures of pebbles and try her hand at making a corolla with Japanese milk. In autumn, she delighted in creating pictures of fallen leaves with color pencils and in winters, she drew and painted the oranges of mandarin. This happy pastime taught her the finer points of intricate patterns and a unique color sense.
Seiko’s real passion came to fore when she started learning to carve. With this, she was able to give a fresh breath of air and infuse life to the materials she used. She went on to hone this form of art and mastered the technology. So passionate is she of the carvings that she treats each of her carvings as individuals and she uses her carving tools to bring out the individuality of the piece.
The good thing about Seiko is she has not kept her art under wraps, only for displaying it to others. She’s ever keen to impart her knowledge and skills to whoever wants to learn. To this end, her Salon de Fereel is a platform where one can imbibe fun lessons of her art. Her only advice to learners is to learn from nature and not go against the flow.
Seiko’s carvings are certainly beyond compare and her mediums are varied, ranging from cake icings to fruits to soaps. Her deft hands create such fantastic patterns and designs that they have to be seen to be believed. Her inspiration evidently comes from nature.
Seiko has a sizeable presence on the internet and her own website is a treasure-trove of her unique art.
